Atletico Madrid is going to request as a matter of urgency from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) the precautionary suspension of the sanction of the English footballer Kieran Trippier, for which it had appealed to FIFA, which has rejected his request.
The team will request the precautionary suspension of the sanction immediately, as confirmed to EFE by sources from the Madrid club, after learning on Monday that the FIFA Appeals Committee rejected their appeal and confirmed the "worldwide effect" of the FA's sanction on the English full-back.
Trippier was sanctioned on 23 December for "misconduct in relation to the Betting Rules" of the English body, which meant ten weeks without playing or training and a fine of 70,000 pounds (78,500 euros).
According to the FA's statement, he has "seven alleged infringements of Rule E8 (1)(b) during July 2019", before his transfer to Atlético Madrid, of which "an independent commission" verified "four of the alleged infringements". The other "three were dismissed in a personal hearing". Since the sanction was announced, Atlético Madrid has felt unfairly punished.
"I think it is extremely unfair that Atletico Madrid should be in this situation when the English Federation benefits, which is the one that takes the decision based on that resolution," said coach Diego Simeone.
