According to news out let 'Sky Sports', representatives from Atleti were recently in London to meet with members of the Chelsea hierarchy over a move for the France international.
The report claims that Atletico have switched their sights to Giroud after AC Milan's appeal against their expulsion from the Europa League was successful, making a move for Nikola Kalinic somewhat more complex.
A move for Giroud would see Atletico add another of Didier Deschamps' World Cup-winning France squad to their ranks, with Antoine Griezmann and Lucas Hernandez already key parts of the side at the Wanda Metrpolitano, not to mention new boy Thomas Lemar.
Griezmann would no doubt welcome the addition of his fellow countryman, with the two sharing a good understanding on the pitch. Giroud ended the World Cup without having so much as a shot on target, but his physical presence and approach play allowed Griezmann to buzz about and drift into little pockets of space where he can be more effective than when leading the line on his own.
