Antoine Griezmann will play for Atletico Madrid in the 2022/23 season. The French striker will stay at the Wanda Metropolitano after the club have activated the option for a second year in his loan deal.
'Marca' reported this Tuesday that 'Los Colchoneros' spoke to Griezmann's parent club, Barcelona, to exercise, and complete the deal.
Atletico and Barcelona reached the original loan agreement on 31st August, the final day of last summer's transfer window. It included a particular condition. If he played 50% or more of Atletico's games last season, the club from the Spanish capital would have to buy him.
Therefore, the clause still stands this year round. This means, if he plays in over half of Atleti's matches next season, Madrid will have to pay 40 million euros for him.
The Frenchman himself tweeted the news this Wednesday suggesting that he would be continuing with 'Los Colchoneros' for at least another season.

Because of this, Atletico Madrid now know at least one of their forwards for the upcoming season. What still remains unknown is who will replace Luis Suarez and partner him in the Atleti strike force.
