Two games. Two bumps remain in Barcelona's road to the history books. The Spanish first division has only ever known two teams that couldn't be defeated in a single season, but if Levante or Real Sociedad don't spoil the party, two will become three in less than a fortnight.
The first team to ever accomplish an invincible season was Athletic Bilbao. The Basque side managed this achievement all the way back in 1929, in the second edition of the Spanish 'Primera Division', which Athletic won without losing once in 18 games (12 wins and six draws).
Under the management of Frederick Beaconsfield, the side were crowned champions with 30 points, seven points ahead of second-placed Barcelona.
The second undefeated season came shortly after the first. Real Madrid were the ones to achieve the impressive record this time, in the 1931/32 season, when they had Zamora in net, with Ciriaco, Leoncito, Ateca, Lazcano and Olivares outfield. 'Los Blancos' recorded ten wins and eight draws, bringing home the title on 28 points.
If Barcelona manage this feat, it will be all the more impressive, however. Ernesto Valverde's side are on their way to going unbeaten in a 38 game season, and have won 27 of their 36 games so far. With two games to go, they will be desperate to see out the season without a loss.
