Douglas Luiz has spent a few seasons adapting to the Premier League and he now finds himself on Arsenal's agenda. A club with aspirations of getting back to the top of the Premier League places, and staying there. According to 'The Daily Mail', the narrative is such that Aston Villa like the idea of selling their player. This is because his current market value is around 18 million pounds.
The cited source even reports that the Villa board are already working on finding a suitable replacement for Luiz should his exit come to fruition. Knowing how important he has been for the club since the 2017/18 season, the board will be clear on their task to search the market for a player that matches his quality.
With this being said, the ball is now in Arsenal's court. They will have to decide as soon as possible if they want to begin negotiations to lock him in before the window opens, or if they would rather wait until the summer to do this. If they opt for the latter decision, they could find themselves coming up against opposition and therefore an increased price tag for the player due to the competition.
What favours Arsenal in the matter, is that Douglas Luiz's Aston Villa contract is due to expire in 2023. Therefore, this summer is the last opportunity for Aston Villa to sell him and make some sort of return as he will leave for free should he reach the end of his contract next year. Alternatively, the club could change their mind and look to renew his contract although, this seems unlikely at this moment in time.
