Asensio masterclass put Madrid in command at the interval
The jewel in the crown of the Madrid academy. The starlet turned first team regular. Marco Asensio, took control against UD Melilla in the Copa del Rey, with a simply outstanding first half performance.
Long since named as the successor to the throne of Cristiano Ronaldo, Asensio is finally beginning to step up when it matters for 'Los Blancos'.
In a match where the hosts had dominated but failed to enforce this on the score sheet, three exceptional pieces of quality from Asensio were the difference between the two sides.
First, upon receiving the ball just inside the attacking half, Asensio embarked on a mazey run through the entire UD Melilla defense, and finished by curling a low shot into the far bottom corner of the net, to open the scoring on the afternoon.
Then minutes later, after starting another attacking move for the hosts; Asensio had the wherewithal to follow the play up the field, and get on the end of a Vinicius cut-back to smash the ball home, and double the lead.
As the half came to a close, Asensio would show that he is not just a clinical goal scorer, by producing a sublime assist for young defender Sanchez to get his first goal in the famous white shirt of Real Madrid.
After a failed attempt at scoring from a corner, the ball would be played back to Asensio, who lifted his head and floated a pin point cross into the box for Sanchez to prod home.
Madrid would go into the break in complete control of the match, and had sealed their progression to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with plenty of time to spare.
Home supporters only had to hope that they would see a continuation of this masterclass from Asensio and co in the second half, by means of putting the finishing touches on an already amazing display from their side.
