After four seasons at Manchester City, veteran Argentinian defender Nicolas Otamendi could put an end to his time in the Premier League and return to La Liga.
Otamendi signed for City from Valencia, but now could be playing his football in the Spanish capital next season, under compatriot Diego Simeone.
For a few weeks now Atletico have been trying to negotiate for the 31 year old defender who they see as an ideal replacement for Uruguyan defender, Diego Godin.
Atleti want four defenders in the summer market, among whom is Otamendi, who would be willing to leave CIty after losing his first team place, playing just 31 matches this season, compared to the 49 he played last season.
Apparently, and according to 'AS', Atlético Madrid's sporting director, Andrea Berta, has already begun talks with the agent of the Argentine, Jorge Mendes,in order to seal a deal as soon as possible.
However, Atleti would have to offer good money for Otamendi, as the Argentine cost City 45 million euros when he moved to Manchester from Valencia. The defender also has a contract until 2022.
