He only had kind words for Valverde. "Thank you Valverde. For me, he's done very well. I remember my beginnings, which were very complicated, with five years without winning," said Puyol, in statements reproduced by the newspaper 'Marca'.
"Valverde has won two leagues in two years, leaving the leading team and qualified for the second round in the Champions League, in the Copa del Rey ... and he's out. I have to thank him as 'culé' for everything he has done and for his behavior," he added.
He also wanted to welcome his replacement, Quique Setién. "I hope he does well, I always wish Barcelona the best. At the end of the season is when you have to make the assessments," said Carles Puyol, to finish.
The former defender has been the last, for now, to say goodbye to Valverde, who was dismissed last Monday, after the fiasco during the Spanish Super Cup, which proved to be the last straw for an otherwise very successful coach.
Puyol, like other big names in Barcelona, made sure to say goodbye to Valverde, who proved loyal and kind in his own farewell letter.
