Mikel Arteta was viewed as the frontrunner for the position but strong speculation emerged on Monday night that Arsenal were in fact moving for the Paris Saint-Germain boss.
This seems to be edging ever closer with Emery reportedly already holding talks in London about signing a £5million-a-year deal with the club, which will tie him to the Emirates for three years.
The aforementioned English newspaper claims the 'Gunners' hierarchy were hugely impressed by the Spaniard's plans for Arsenal and his winning pedigree after he secured three Europa League crowns whilst at Sevilla.
That record is backed up by his time in Paris, where he led them to the League-Cup treble this season, as well as the Cup double the previous year.
Emery has also expressed his satisfaction with the decision-making process over transfers and has proved what he can do with a limited budget.
