Mikel Arteta addressed several big topics when he sat down with 'Marca' this week. He reflected on the pain of losing the Premier League title to Man City and looked forward to the transfer window, discussing Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.
The Spaniard also shut down the speculations that had linked him with a move to PSG to take over as manager there, given his contract with the Gunners expires in 2025.
Arteta, who played for PSG for two seasons in the early 2000s, was crystal clear, however, about his attitude to being in London: "I can only say that I am happy at Arsenal. I feel loved, valued by our owners, Stan and Josh (Kroenke), and I have a lot to do here at this club. I am happy and tremendously grateful to be at Arsenal", he stated.
The 41-year-old spent five seasons with Arsenal and its fans as a player, years before he joined the team as manager in 2019. He lifted the FA Cup in his first year as Arsenal manager, and since then has been rebuilding the team, culminating now in their return to the Champions League in the coming season.
Although he shut down rumours of the PSG move, he did not rule out a possible return to Spain in the future. "Spain is my country. I have been away for many years and at some point it could be an option to return to La Liga and have other experiences. But [not] now...", he declared.
It seems for now at least Arteta will remain at the head of the Arsenal project, and if he remains as happy as he says he is now, may renew his contract beyond 2025.
