'The Gunners' produced a phenomenal performance with a 5-0 thrashing of Burnley in what was Arsene Wenger's final ever game in charge at their north London home.

Moments ahead of kick-off, long-standing manager Wenger was awarded a guard of honour by both Burnley and Arsenal squads, whilst a sea of red overwhelmed the stadium with fans sporting 'Merci Arsene' shirts.

Arsenal began the first half in almost entire domination of possession and pace, with their efforts quickly rewarded as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute.

Wenger's most expensive signing met the end of Alexandre Lacazette's searing cross and slid the ball home as a sign of things to come for 'The Gunners'. The opening goal certainly roused a smile from the usually ever-so-serious Wenger.

Burnley struggled to make their mark on the match and were forced to stand by as Arsenal demolished their defence to put on a stunning display. Meanwhile goalkeeper Petr Cech was given more of a workout from his own side's back passes.

A collision between Ashley Barnes and Granit Xhaka saw the Burnley forward head off with a suspected dislocated shoulder, and handed the visitors a bitter blow in their attempt to subdue Arsenal's attacking prowess.

A beautiful cut back from Hector Bellerin at the side was met by Lacazette, who doubled the hosts' advantage as they headed into the break. The crowd reaction will have made a pleasant change for Wenger who saw his presence lauded in the stands as opposed to the generally cool reception he has suffered this season.

The second half saw Burnley presented with a few half-chances, but after Kolasinac got on the end of Wilshere's assist to extend their lead to three, it looked as though the 'Clarets' were almost resigned to their fate.

Certainly, in the 64th minute when Alex Iwobi capitalised on the space he was afforded in the box and powered the ball high past Nick Pope, the Arsenal fans had cause to celebrate. There was very little the visitors could do to come back against a 4-0 lead.

In a highly fitting tribute to the man who has dedicated 22 years of his life to the north London club, Arsenal were not content to settle with just four and continued to heap the pressure on to the Burnley defence.

They were rewarded once again, as Aubameyang put the icing on the cake with a glossy finish to Bellerin's assist to hammer home the victory. What an exceptionally fitting homage in the final home-match for Arsene Wenger.

The victory seals Arsenal's sixth-placed position and wards off the late charge from Burnley who were hoping to upset the top-six stranglehold and will, instead, now have to settle for seventh.
