Five other French stars have been nominated for the prize, namely Hugo Lloris, N'Golo Kante, Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe, as well as Greizmann.
The attacker, who has scored 24 goals in 63 games for 'Les Bleus', said that winning the biggest prize in football should be taken into account when the prize is awarded.
Griezman and Mbappe are both considered as serious contenders for the award, however many deem Luka Modric to be the favourite, Griezmann though, thinks that this would be wrong and that he hope's he's victorious.
''We are world champions, we're part of the best team in the world,'' Griezmann told France Football.
''In this best team in the world there must be the best player in the world, right? In any case, that's what I think.''
''Afterwards, there are votes, opinions, different judgements. But I think that a Frenchman must win the Ballon d'Or this year.''
Although the former Real Sociedad man was not afraid to say he hoped he won the award himself.
''For me, it's a dream. Historically, the Ballon d'Or is the best of the best.
''There are only star players, only legends among the winners. It would be a dream to become an example to others.''
