Ousmane Dembele's continuity at Barcelona has ended up costing the club dearly. Barca did not manage to sell him and avoid paying his large salary and that meant they were unable to get Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay.
This Friday, more information has come to light on the failed departure of the Frenchman. Barca wanted to loan him out to Man Utd, but they were looking for the Frenchman to renew his contract.
If he had gone on loan without renewing first, he would have had just one year left on his contract in 2021 and would have therefore lost almost all of his value.
Barcelona's great interest in renewing him was so that the star would not lose value on his return. They wanted to prevent him coming back with just six months to go until he could negotiate his departure for nothing.
According to the 'Daily Mail', Dembele was opposed to this proposal because he only contemplated leaving Barca by being sold to another club. The Catalans would not agree to that unless a great offer came along.
