VAR has it critics and precisely one of the areas many fans, players and coaches are upset about is the fact it applies offside too strictly. The latest incident came in the match between Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Villa went ahead just before half-time and then, Firmino made it 1-1. The move started with a long pass from Alexander-Arnold to Diogo Jota, but after a VAR review, the goal was ruled out.
In England, the lines are drawn live during the broadcast and it showed, the striker was fractionally ahead of the defender.
The fact the goal was disallowed for such a tight offside when there is a margin for error (calculation of each point of attacker and defender, frame used to measure offside), led to fury on social media. Jurgen Klopp was bemused on the sideline and looked towards the fourth official.
Just before the hour mark, Mo Salah drew Liverpool level and there was no question over that one.
