Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva lashed out after the Cityzens' win over Leicester at those who criticise them by saying they have an old squad. According to the Portuguese, those critics “don't understand the game”.

Manchester City have probably suffered the most criticism this season since Guardiola has been in the dugout at the Etihad Stadium.

The Sky Blues have dominated England and even Europe thanks to their stylish football, but this season injuries and other variants have made the Mancunian team unrecognizable compared to previous campaigns.

Many in the press have blamed this drop in standards on the fact that there are some players in the squad who are too “old” to continue performing under Pep Guardiola, something Bernardo Silva disagrees with.

The Portuguese midfielder, after the Cityzens' 2-0 win over Leicester, hit out at critics saying they “don't understand the game” when asked if one of Manchester City's problems this season has been the advanced age of some players.

"Tell me, which player? Give me names. That's people that don't understand the game. I'm 30 years old, [Mateo] Kovacic is 30 years old. You're not talking about guys that are 36. So we have six bad months or four bad months and out of nowhere we're old, we're not good enough. In the last eight seasons we've won six Premier Leagues and for four bad months we're old?," he said.

"I'm asking you. You asked me the question so I answered. That’s people that don't understand the game, never played the game and probably don't understand a thing about football. We're going to prove them wrong. We have time for that. We're a bit late for this season, just maybe in a few competitions, but we'll be back, don't worry," he added.
