Wenger names his successor in Arsenal dugout
With Arsene Wenger's time at Arsenal slowly petering out, the Frenchman has earmarked one of his former players to take charge at the Emirates when he finally leaves his post at the Emirates.
His tenure in charge of the Gunners is approaching 23 years and, with his current contract running until the end of the 2018/19 campaign, Arsenal will have to look for a suitable heir to the longest-serving manager in English football.
According to the 'Daily Star', Wenger has tipped former defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst to take the reins. Currently in charge of Eredivisie champions Feyenoord since joining in March 2015, van Bronckhorst has won the KNVB Cup and the Dutch league title after an 18-year wait for the club.
Playing under some of the world's finest managers such as Guus Hiddink, Dick Advocaat and Frank Rijkaard has allowed the ex-Arsenal man to take to the dugout with aplomb, but he has always referred back to Wenger's managerial style.
"Wenger's philosophy has been an example for millions. He is the best coach in the world," van Bronckhorst has said of the manager who brought him to England in 2001, where he picked up a Premier League winners' medal and an FA Cup title before joining Barcelona.
Now Wenger eyes the Dutchman as the most suited man for his post. Despite criticism from large sections of the Gunners supporters, Wenger is widely expected to play a key role in finding his replacement when he eventually leaves. A man to continue his legacy at the Emirates.
