Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Sime Vrsaljko will leave the club to join Inter Milan.

It was a move that had been in the works for some time, but Atleti were finally able to confirm it after securing the services of Colombian right-back Santiago Arias.

Vrsaljko will move on an initial loan deal, with a fee of around €6.5m mooted. Inter will have an option to make the move permanent for €17.5m.

The player himself was reportedly keen on a move back to Serie A. He moved to Spain after impressing for Sassuolo and Genoa in Italy, and he will now return to the peninsula.

Vrsaljko made 35 league appearances for Atletico over two seasons and he has earned 41 caps for Croatia, including a start in the World Cup final against France.
