In fact, there are three players who regularly feature on their respective sides' subs benches who actually edge out Messi based on their minutes to goal ratios.
Messi's 12 goals in 11 games means that he averages a goal every 82.5 minutes, an incredibly impressive record, though it palces in comparison to others.
Based on minutes per goal ratios, Getafe forward Angel Rodriguez is La Liga's most feared marksman, finding the net every 74.25 minutes. The Canary Islander has scored four goals in seven games, though only three of them came from the start. The 30-year-old is a player who comes up big for his side when they need him most, with two of his four goals coming after being introduces from the bench.
Second in the table is Las Palmas' Loic Remy. The Frenchman has only started one game since joining the club from Chelsea, though he did score on of his four goals in that encounter. The French international averages a goal every 74.5 minutes. Remy has made just six La Liga appearances so far and impressively managed to find the net on his first three appearances in the Spanish top flight, despite only playing 26, 26 and 44 minutes respectively.
Finally, Valencia's Santi Mina rounds off the trio. Marcelino's super sub averages a goal every 74.25 minutes, equal with Angel, having found the net four times in 11 appearances this term. Barring his strike in the 5-0 thrashing of Malaga, which he started, the rest of his goals have all come after coming off the bench. The 21-year-old needed just 21 minutes Against Real Betis, 20 against Sevilla and 12 against Leganes to add to his goal tally.
