The top 3 goalkeepers that Messi has faced
In one of his most personal interviews to date, Agentina star Lionel Messi has confessed which goalkeepers have posed the greatest challenge to him over the years.
In an interview with FIFA, Leo Messi said: ''The best goalkeeper? I played against many, but to choose one specifically I would say [Gianluigi] Buffon, and [Manuel] Neuer...I don't know there's so many but they are two of the best. Also [Iker] Casillas.''
After a remarkable career at Barcelona thus far, the striker named three legendary goalkeepers against whom he has played against on numerous occasions. Although he has crossed paths most with Casillas, and won against the former Real keeper many times in 'El Clasico'.
However, the Argentine has also had several run-ins with Buffon and Neuer. Messi has faced the Italian legend in several Champions League qualifying rounds, and even in a final. Whilst the German he has faced not only in Europe but also a World Cup final.
It is these three incredible shotstoppers that have been recognised as the best in the world by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, and made Messi's goal-scoring record just that little bit more impressive.
