Javier Tebas spoke to 'GOL' to analyse the future of La Liga and the Copa del Rey and he did not leave anyone indifferent. The head of the league criticised the one-off Copa del Rey format because in the past it produced a final between Mallorca and Recreativo Huelva.

Tebas is not willing to give in despite the fact the clubs supported the change in format for next season's Copa del Rey. The La Liga president does not like it

"This format has already existed and it failed. It was with one-legged ties. It was the famous Mallorca-Recreativo final. I am not in favour or against, that already failed," assured Tebas on 'GOL''.

The La Liga president stated that "in recent years we have seen a great compeitition, but it belongs to the Federation and we cannot intervene," he added.

Tebas was referring to the 2002-03 Copa del Rey with victory for Mallorca over Recreativo by three goals to nil. However, it is not completely true, because the one off ties were only played up to and including the last 32. The last 16, quarters and semis were two legged affairs.

The president also wanted to talk about the Spanish Super Cup, which has also changed its format as well as being played abroad. "If it were one game I wouldn't have a problem with it. A four team Super Cup? And why not with 8 or 16? You are competing against La Liga itself," criticised Tebas.
