The Spanish Football Federation has officially announced the key dates for the 2025/26 season, confirming the start and end dates for both La Liga and the Spanish second tier. The campaign will kick off over the weekend of 17 August, with the top flight concluding on 24 May and the second tier wrapping up its regular season on 31 May.

It has also been confirmed that the promotion play-offs in the Spanish second tier will take place between 7 and 21 June, as clubs battle for a place in La Liga. The announcement was made jointly by La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Friday.

As in recent seasons, the calendar will follow an unbalanced format, meaning no two matchdays will be identical. Introduced in 2019/20, this system is designed to better accommodate safety requirements, European competitions, club demands, stadium works, public holidays and other major events — all to boost match attendance and TV viewership.

There will be five FIFA international breaks during the campaign: from 1-9 September, 6-14 October, 10-18 November, 23-31 March 2026, and 1-9 June 2026.

La Liga will feature three midweek matchdays, while the Spanish second tier will have one. The Christmas break will begin after matches on Sunday 21 December, with fixtures resuming on the weekend of 4 January. The draw dates for the fixture list are yet to be finalised.
