Jakub Jankto comes out as gay: 'I don't want to hide anymore'

Czech footballer Jakub Jankto released a video online in which he came out publicly that he is homosexual. The international is currently playing at Sparta Praha, where he went on loan from Getafe. He's the first footballer from a La Liga club to reveal that he's gay.

Sport continues to breaks down barriers. Fortunately, mindsets have changed a lot towards recently and this has allowed sports men and women to come out openly about their sexuality. That is what has happened with Jakub Jankto

The Czech Republic international, who is currently playing at Sparta Praha on loan from Getafe, released online where he decided to take a step towards liberty.

"Just like everyone; I have my strong points. I have my weaknesses. I have a family, I have my friends. I have a job which I do the best I can, for years, seriously, professionally and passionately. Like everyone, I also want to live my life in freedom. Without fear. Without judgement. Without violence. But with love. I'm homosexual and I don't want to hide that anymore", the footballer declared.

He is the first player with La Liga heritage and who has openly come out as gay. Since Josh Cavallo, who announced it on the 27th October 2021, no one had taken the plunge in the footballing world. Now Jakub Jankto has.

The striker, 27 years old, has played 10 times, starting eight, so far at his stint at Spart Praga, scoring once. As for his stay at Getafe in 2021-22, the Czech played 15 and got two assists.
