In an interview for 'The Players Tribune', a medium for professional athletes, Luis Suarez has reviewed one of the hardest moments of his career. The Uruguayan confessed that Barcelona contacted him after he bit Italy's Giorgio Chiellini to offer their reassurance.

The 30-year-old arrived at the Nou Camp in 2014 along with a ban from FIFA for that famous bite on the Italian defender. Initially, the striker was worried that such action could have serious consequences for his career.

Speaking to the online platform, which includes contributors such as team-mate Gerard Pique, Suarez looked back to recall and retell everything he felt about the incident. Despite having already apologised to Chiellini, the former Liverpool forward was banned from the remainder of the World Cup and believed his move to the Spanish giants was hanging by a thread.

"We had scored through Godín and I didn't celebrate as much as everyone else because I was already thinking about what would happen next."

He continued: "I entered the dressing room and the first thing I did was talk to my wife and she asked me what I had done and obviously from the beginning I didn't want to accept reality, denying [it], crying."

The Barcelona player confessed that he received support from the club after starring in an image that will always stick in his mind: "Before I was kicked out of the World Cup, that's when I spoke with Zubi [Andoni Zubizarreta] and the president, they told me to stay calm, Barca still loved me, I have no problem saying I cried."

Suarez has since gone on to make 113 appearances for the Catalan side, scoring 98 goals in the process and justifying the club's faith in him.
