After several weeks of tests, Diego Costa now knows that he will need surgery. According to 'Marca', the Atlético striker will have an operation on Thursday in Madrid for his cervical disc herniation.

Confirmed: Diego Costa will need an operation. The Atlético striker, who went to Brazil to consult a trusted doctor, has now returned to Madrid with the final decision: he will need surgery to solve his cervical disc herniation, according to 'Marca'.

The Atlético striker will go to the Clínica Centro in Madrid on Thursday and is estimated to be out for 3 months. With the return date set for February, Costa should be back in time for the last 16 of the Champions League (all going well).

Atlético announced on 14th November that Diego Costa suffered a cervical herniation. Since then, the striker has been seen by several people to get a diagnosis and precise treatment. Finally, he went to Brazil and they have determined he needs surgery.

This setback is another injury in his career. The discal herniation operation will be his 2nd important operation in less than a year, as on 4th December 2018 he had to get a toe operation.

Injuries have plagued Costa since his return to Atlético Madrid. A multitude of injuries, with the culmination of operations, have prevented the forward from playing the same as he did to help Simeone's side win the league in 2014.
