The torrid start that the blues have had this season doesn’t only translate to their precarious table position, which they currently sit 11th in the Premier League, but also the amount of goals they are letting in.
Chelsea’s poor marking in the box has created a rather worrying statistic: more goals have been conceded than scored by any of their strikers.
Last season, Diego Costa was blasting in goals with ease, managing to score 20 goals for the club. However without the support from the wings this season, the Spanish striker is finding it more difficult to score.
A more telling statistic shows that Chelsea’s striker and Midfielder Willian, who are the club’s top goalscorer with two goals, currently occupy the 30th and 31st position for leading goal scorers in the Premier League this season. The club has actually had three own goals in their favor which officially means that their leading goalscorer is the position.
The reason they are not bottom is that Chelsea aren’t one of the teams with the lowest amount of goals scored, as they have managed 14 so far. However their defensive fragility is much more worrying as only three other teams have let in as many goals as them.
