Middlesbrough are keen to push through a deal for a goalkeeper before the Championship season starts in just over 2 weeks, with Newcastle's Karl Darlow believed to be top of their shopping list.

The Teessiders have also been linked with moves for Keiren Westwood and Darren Randolph as they look to fill the void created by the departures of Brad Guzan and Victor Valdes.

Fan favourite Dimi Konstantopoulos has signed a new one year deal, whilst local boy Connor Ripley has returned with glowing reports from a loan spell with Oldham.

However, with former Real Madrid man Tomas Mejias expected to be one of the next victims of Garry Monk's summer overhaul, the club are targeting a new stopper.

Darlow has been told that he will not be Newcastle's No 1 next season, with Rafa Benitez actively looking for a new goalkeeper.

Boro have already had one offer turned down for the former Forest man, believed to be in the region of £5m, though talks have continued between the two sides since, meaning that a deal is likely to be reached.

The 'Smoggies' have also earmarked West Ham's Randolph as a potential alternative, the Republic of Ireland No 1 is expected to move on this summer following the arrival of Joe Hart with both Boro and Newcastle keeping tabs on his situation.
