A Bayern Munich player, believed to be Rafinha, has been pictured appearing to have dressed as a Saudi Arabian suicide bomber for a Halloween party.

The photo was tweeted by Bayern Munich's official German language account, @FCBayern.

The player's face is obscured by sunglasses and a false moustache, but it appears to be 33-year-old Brazilian defender Rafinha.

Rafinha is carrying two packages, both marked with the German word 'Vorsicht', which means 'Warning' or 'Caution' in English. These appear to be intended to be seen as bombs.

The image generated instant controversy when it was posted, with many accounts replying to the tweet to express disapproval at the player's choice of costume.

There was a considerable section of commenters who questioned the backlash to the photo, suggesting that the costume only poked fun at terrorists, and therefore was not offensive.

However, the response to these comments corrected this perception. Rafinha's costume is typical daily wear for a Saudi man, rather than being an outfit specifically for terrorists.

Therefore, the costume perpetuates the stereotype that all Arab men are suicide bombers.
