Miefielder Ever Banega proved why many consider him to be a set-piece specialist by firing home a free kick to give Argentina the lead against Nigeria on Tuesday.

The Sevilla midfielder perhaps wouldn't have been the most obvious choice as first goalscorer, with the Argentina side boasting the attacking talents of Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria and Paulo Dybala but Banega made the most of an error by 'Super Eagles' goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi to give his side the lead.

Akpeyi inexplicable handled the ball outside his box, giving Argentina the perfect opportunity to open the scoring and Banega duly obliged, placing the resulting free kick beyond the reach of the Chippa United stopper.

It was a fine strike from the 29-year-old, with the goal taking his tally of international goals to six.
