Alaba leaves, Upamecano arrives: Flick has already spoken to him
Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick has spoken to French centre-back Dayot Upamecano about a possible future at the Bavarian club, according to reports in Kicker magazine.
Upamecano plays for RB Leipzig, with whom he has a contract until 2023 but has a termination clause of between 40 and 45 million euros after July.
The 22-year-old is currently on the radar of several European clubs and could play a key role in the renewal of Bayern's defence.
Upamecano is not the only piece in this renewal in which other names are also being considered.
The imminent departure of David Alaba, who has been linked with Real Madrid, could see Lucas Hernandez, who currently alternates at left-back with Alphonso Davies, move to the centre of defence.
Flick has said he is confident that 'Lucki', as he is known at Bayern, can fill the void left by Alaba.
But if Lucas Hernandez moves to centre-back, the position for which he was initially signed, then Bayern will look for a replacement for Davies at left-back.
The names on the table are Lucas Netz, a 17-year-old who currently plays for Hertha Berlin, and Omar Richards, who is 22 and plays in the English second division.
The possible signing of Upamecano could affect the possible renewal of Jérôme Boateng, whose contract expires at the end of this season.
Boateng, 32, was already on the way out at the start of last season, but has ended up being a consistent starter.
One of the dressing room leaders, Thomas Müller, has spoken publicly in favour of his renewal.
