Not everything was good news for Ajax, despite a 6-2 win against Excelsior, which essentially reconfirmed their position as leaders of the Eredivisie. Frenkie de Jong left the pitch with an injury in the 28th minute, when Ajax was only winning by 1-0, and had some seriously worried about his presence in the second leg of the Champions League.
A couple of days later, it is now known that the replacement of the versatile footballer took place as a precaution more than an actual necessity, as the future Barça player was called up by Ten Hag for the second leg UCL match against Juventus.
Ajax highlighted the player's presence in its press release, along with the other 21 footballers that will be making to trip to Turin. Nicolas Tagliafico also snuck in, who despite not being able to play, travels to continue with the routine of training and to support the team in their struggle for a spot in the semifinals.
These are the 22 Ajax called up for the second leg of the quarterfinals: Andre Onana, Kostas Lamprou, Bruno Varela, Rasmus Kristensen, Joël Veltman, Matthijs de Ligt, Daley Sinkgraven, Noussair Mazraoui, Lisandro Magallán, Daley Blind, Nico Tagliafico, Donny van de Beek, Dusan Tadic, Zakaria Labyad, Lasse Schöne, Frenkie de Jong, Hakim Ziyech, Dani de Wit, David Neres, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Kasper Dolberg, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp.
