One of the standout keepers in La Liga, Aitor Fernandez, spoke to 'AS' about the options he had in the transfer window as well as the season ahead of him at Levante.
The transfer window was busy for him: "The club transmitted calm and I wanted to stay. We looked at the fact I'd got the affection of fans. It's true there was contact with Athletic Bilbao and Arsenal. Quite a lot of clubs have asked and it's true those two did ask. I feel I have lots of support at Levante and there's nothing else to say."
"We aren't doing badly this season. It's a bit strange I'm saying that when we're in the relegation zone. Maybe we're in this situation now because in the important matches it is not enough with just being good. The truth is that we've not had a good start to the LaLiga season and playing all the matches away from home hasn't helped either," he admitted.
He is hoping that the team gradually gets back to the level of the previous season: "My aim is to be a better goalkeeper than last season, regardless of the saves. I think my season has lots of repercussion, but it's not the type of keeper I'd like to be. I like to be one who can organise the defence better so the opponents don't have as many shot. I might be achieving that this season and it's not having as much repercussion. They are different ways of seeing football."
