21 year old Frenkie de Jong has been touted as the next upcoming star in world football, and as such, is being chased by the majority of top clubs across the continent, inclduing FC Barcelona. However the club's sporting director, Eric Abidal, has this week insisted that they know no more than any of the player's other admirers about his next career move.
In a press conference for the unveiling of most recent signing Kevin Prince Boateng, Abidal gave a short and simple response when asked about the possibility of De Jong being the next arrival at the Nou Camp. The Frenchman said: "This question has to be asked to the player. He knows there is interest from many clubs and he will make his decision. We can only wait, like everyone else."
De Jong has enjoyed a rapid rise in recent years, making his international debut for Holland in June, against Peru, and he has since won five further caps. He has also played 16 times for Ajax in the Eredivisie this season, scoring four goals.
