'A tough day': Ramsdale suffers third Premier League relegation

The result brought an end to a disappointing campaign for the Saints and added another painful chapter to the 26-year-old goalkeeper's career. Previously relegated with Bournemouth in 2020 and Sheffield United in 2021, Ramsdale now finds himself part of another side unable to maintain top-flight status.
Speaking after the match, the former Arsenal goalkeeper admitted the writing had been on the wall. "We knew this day was probably coming. We haven't been good enough all season," he said. "We were still fighting, trying to hang on, but it wasn't to be."
Ramsdale has only featured twice in the Championship—both during his time with Sheffield United. He was signed by Arsenal following the Blades' drop, making his current spell with Southampton a rare extended stint outside the top end of English football.
"There was no sense of giving up, even if the first half looked that way. Spurs were just the better side. We showed some pride in the second half, dug in for each other, but it's a tough day for everyone involved."
The player also paid tribute to the fans, who continued to back the team despite the difficult season. "They've travelled up and down the country, been at St Mary's week in, week out, and it can't have been easy.
"They were singing all through the second half today. We owe them better, and we've got to start giving them some Saturdays to look forward to."
