In France, they were hoping that their league's biggest star would be at his tantalising best, but it wasn't to be. The world's most expensive player disappointed the press, failing to make a big enough impact against Liverpool.
'Le Parisien' gave Neymar the lowest rating out of anyone in the PSG team, describing him as a 'light breeze'.
"He switched off a lot, and then he disappeared except for the pass to set up Mbappe," the Paris based publication claimed.
"One year after his arrival in Paris, the world's most expensive player has still not played a great match in the Champions League. Neymar has symbolised the feeling of impotence that has been around ever since he joined the team from the capital."
They went on to point the finger at him directly for not troubling the Liverpool defence enough: "Numbed by the pressure, as well as by the 'Reds' intimidation, the Brazilian wandered the pitch like a lost soul.
"A total lack of inspiration or urgency, Neymar was little more than a shadow of himself."
Former France player Christophe Dugarry, a World Cup winner in 1998 and now a consultant for 'RMC Sport', analysed Neymar's match. He described it as 'unacceptable'.
"It was not good on the eyes. This match made everyone crazy," the former Barcelona star said.
