The Argentinian star continues to conquer everything there is to conquer. He had not won the top individual football award since 2015, but he has done it once again, surpassing long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo by taking a record-breaking 6th Ballon d'Or.
An event of such characteristics tends to attract all football fans in the world, and so it did, according to data published by 'France Football', the newspaper behind the event, with 823 million people following the event on social media.
In this newspaper, the event attracted 61 million messages and 19.3 video views on Twitter; 26.2 on Instagram, and 1.4 on Facebook. In 'L'Équipe', the figures were 13 million on Twitter, 2.3 million on Facebook and 7.6 million on Instagram.
Needless to say, Leo Messi was not the only attraction, as other prizes were awarded such as the best goalkeeper or the best female footballer.
