On 6th September 1995, Rene Higuita surprised the world of football. In a friendly between England and Colombia, a ball went towards his goal and he decided to clear the ball in very unorthodox fashion.
It was the scorpion. It consists of clearing the ball with the bottom of your feet while jumping forward. He later admitted that he had been practising it for years so that it worked.
The former goalkeeper, who become one of the most famous Colombian players is now part of footballing history, was known for coming out of his box and taking free-kicks as well. He scored a brilliant free-kick in a match against River Plate for Atletico Nacional.
