On Friday, the Copa America's new format for 2024 was announced. The United States, who hosted the event in 2026, will be the home to a tournament with several new aspects.
The competition will have 10 sides from South American and six from CONCACAF, who will qualify via the CONCACAF Nations League.
Addtionally, an agreement was also struck with women's football, and they will create a new club tournament. Four CONMEBOL women's national teams (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Paraguay) will be invited to play the Golden Women 2024, which will have eight sides, including the two which will go to the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 (USA and Jamaica or Canada).
CONMEBOL President Alejando Dominguez claimed this pact was an important step forward: "We want this passion to be translated into more and better competitions and for football and its values to grow and get stronger in the whole hemisphere. What is without doubt is that both confederations believe in big things and we will work with that in mind".
Finally, both American confederations will work to create a new club tournament. Said competition will be formed of two CONCACAF sides and two CONMEBOL, which will be played in 2024.
