Zidane also doesn't need much introduction. He played for France for 12 years, winning the World Cup in 1998 and Euro 2000, an international cup double. At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, his team lost out in the final, as he did at Euro 1996. He is considered the best player in the world in the 90s and the early 00s. An all-time legend of French football.
Maradona was everything for Argentina. He is often referred to as 'God' in his home country. He is considered the best player of World Cup history. With Argentina, he won the 1986 World Cup and reached the 1990 World Cup final. He then went on to coach the Argentinian national side in the 2010 World Cup, reaching the quarter-finals. An absolute idol in his country.
Pele, 'O Rei'. Who doesn't know Pele? He is considered by many as the best footballer of all-time. He led Brazil to the 1958, 1962 and 1970 World Cup wins, the youngest champion in history and the youngest to ever win two World Cups. He is also the only person to have won three World Cups. A national treasure of Brazil.
Finally, there is Buffon. You have to be special to be the leader of a national team and be the goalkeeper. He has been chosen as the world's best goalkeeper on four occasions. With Italy, he has participated in three European Championships and five World Cups, winning the 2006 World Cup in Germany after beating France 5-3 in a penalty shootout. Gigi is a national icon of Italy.
