Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal came close to signing French starlet Kingsley Coman two summers ago.
The Gunners boss explained that the deal was close to going through, but that Coman, who was playing for Paris Saint-Germain at the time, opted or Juventus instead.
After just one year in Italy, the 19-year-old was on the move again, joining Bayern Munich on a two-year loan deal.
“Yes we really tried to sign Kingsley Coman in the summer of 2014,” Wenger confirmed to beIN sports.
“The transfer was almost completed, but he preferred Juventus.”
Coman has impressed since linking up with Josep Guardiola’s side at the beginning of the campaign.
He has scored four goals in all competitions and created seven more, propelling him into the France squad for the recent friendlies against Germany and England.
Bayern have paid £5million to Juve for the loan deal and have the option to make the move permanent for £16m in 2017.
