Vincent Kompany has been given the final decision on whether he is prepared to risk angering Manuel Pellegrini's instructions to return to the club and not play for Belgium on Tuesday.
The City captain has been informed by the Belgium coach Marc Wilmots that he will be named in the starting line-up if he emerges unscathed from a final training session on Tuesday morning. The defender has been out of action since September 15 after limping off during City's Champions League defeat against Juventus.
He has been warned by Pellegrini that he was not fit to play for his country during this international break, but with FIFA regulations prohibiting City and Pellegrini from making the final decision, Kompany will be allowed to decide for himself.
Pellegirini took a very hard stance: “I cannot ask him (Kompany) not to travel, if the national team call him, he must go, but he cannot play, so I don’t think he will play.
"If you cannot play for your club, you cannot play for your national squad. We will see what Vincent will do."
