Victor Valdes has had his loan move to Standard Liege terminated early, with the goalkeeper expected to return to Manchester United.
Following a turbulent spell at Manchester United, which saw the keeper make only two appearances, Valdes was loaned out to Belgian side Standard Liege in Janueart on a temporary deal.
Despite helping the club lift the Belgian Cup after a 2-1 victory over Club Brugge, the Spaniardwill now leave the club earlier than was expected.
The club confirmed decision on their official website, saying: "Since our priority is to give playing time to young players in our final games, plus their inability to be selected this week for medical reasons, the club have decided to end the loans of the Spanish goalkeeper [Valdes] and Greek midfielder [Ioannis Maniatis] as soon as this weekend."
"Standard Liege thank Victor and Ioannis for everything they have given to the club, especially during our winning run in the Belgian Cup, and wish them all the best in the remainder of their respective careers."
Valdes made eight appearances for the Belgian outfit, and is now expected to return to Old Trafford, where his contract will expire at the end of the season.
