Former France and Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele has taken over the role of assistant manager to Swansea manager Paul Clement, the Welsh club announced on Wednesday.

The legendary 43-year-old former player signed a contract until the end of the season and his debut in the dug-out will be the Premier League fixture against Arsenal on Saturday.

Makelele coincided with Clement at Chelsea during the 2007/08 season and had also worked as an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti during the Italian's tenure at PSG.

During his decorated playing career, the Frenchman won 15 titles including two Premier League trophies with Chelsea and the Champions League title with Real Madrid.
