It seems as though Spanish is the language of goals! Five hispanophones are battling it out to be the top scorer in three of the top five European leagues (La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1).
First, who else but Lionel Messi? The Argentine star is currently top of the goalscoring charts in Spain with five goals in three games, putting him two ahead of Celta Vigo striker and fellow South American Maxi Gomez.
En Italy, Argentine pair Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala lead the way with exactly the same record as Messi. The trio formed Argentina's attacking unit in their recent World Cup qualifiers, which will have had plenty of their rivals looking on in a combination of terror and envy.
The other two Latin goalgetters are plying their trade in Ligue 1. With five games played in the French top flight, Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani lead the rankings with six goal apiece.
German is the only country that does not boast a South American who is in the goals. In England, although he does not speak spanish, Brazilian Garbiel Jesus finds himself just one goal behind top scorer Romelu Lukaku on three.
Finally, Neymar and Mariano have also started the season in scintillating form, even though they are not troubling the top scorers chart just yet.
