Renato Sanches has had a tough year since lifting the Euro 2016 trophy with Portugal. Despite his Swansea City loan being intended as a fresh start, it's been similarly difficult going for him in the Premier League, with his debut drawing criticism.
Nevertheless, team-mate Alfie Mawson has backed the Portuguese international to deliver for the 'Swans' soon, saying that he should be afforded time to adapt to the unique rigours of the English top flight.
"He is a quality player, and in training he is so encouraging," Mawson said.
"The gaffer said last week he is going to take time to adapt, and he hasn't played a lot of football lately, so he needs to get that fitness back and when he does he will be a star player and it will be a joy to play with him."
"He did well (against Tottenham). Obviously, it is a tough test to come away to Tottenham, and he had a good performance."
Sanches is likely to start in the Carabao Cup, as Swansea open their campaign against Reading in the Madejski Stadium.
