Burnley were brought back down to earth with a bump after their victory against Liverpool at the weekend as Accrington Stanley knocked their Premier League opponents out of the competition.
Stanley were in no way, shape or form outplayed, as the League Two side managed to muster 10 shots in the whole match, in contrast to Burnley's 12.
Matthew Pearson managed to ensure that it was a historic night for Accrington Stanley when he scored a goal in the 120th minute of of the game, causing the biggest shock of the competition so far.
Fulham beat Boro to send Karanka's side packing
Championship side Fulham managed to beat their Premier League counterparts in another upset of the evening. Middlesbrough took the lead through former England international David Nugent in the eighth minute.
Fulham managed to get themselves an equaliser courtesy of a Julien De Sart own goal which took the game to extra time.
The west London club then won the game thanks to a goal from Lasse Christensen in the 113th minute, dumping the Premier League new boys out of the competition at the first hurdle.
Sunderland scrape past Shrewsbury
Adnan Januzaj got his first goal for Sunderland as they beat their League One opponents in the last 10 minutes of the game.
The match looked to be heading to extra-time, but Januzaj managed to score in the 84th minute, to ensure that there was no humiliation for the Black Cats.
Bournemouth see off a valiant effort from Morecambe
Premier League side Bournemouth managed to scrape past League Two Morecambe thanks to goals from Max Gradel and Marc Wilson.
Bournemouth took the lead in the 8th minute thanks to Gradel, but Morecambe pulled it back to 1-1 when Stockton scored for the Shrimps.
The south coast club won the match courtesy of Marc Wilson's goal in the 54th minute.
