Despite denying it, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho are at the heart of and everlasting rivalry which will only come to an end when one of them retires from the game.
When they clashed in Spanish football, Guardiola came out on top against the Portuguese boss. In England, on the other hand, Mourinho has enjoyed more success in their first season.
In Spain, Guardiola dominated the first year, winning La Liga and the Champions League, while Mourinho only managed the Spanish Cup. In the second season, Barcelona also imposed themselves over Real in number of trophies, by winning the Cup and the Super Cup. La Liga title, however, was for Mourinho.
This season, in direct clashes between the two, a win each and a draw. In reference to trophies, though, Mourinho has won 3-0. Guardiola's City have not found their place, by ending the campaign without silverware.
The Red Devils have lifted the EFL Cup after beating City on their road to the final, and they also beat Ajax to win the Europa League for the first time. In the Premier League, United came sixth, but will qualify for the Champions League thanks to their triumph in the continental competition. At the start of the season, they also beat Leicester to claim the Community Shield.
A strange season for both managers with the red side of Manchester winning the first round, though both sides still have many improvements to make in order to meet their initial expectations.
