The match started as expected, Barcelona leading and holding a very high line. Messi's first warning can within the first five minutes with his curling shot bouncing down off the crossbar.
Sevilla had a chance to cause trouble for the home side, but N'Zonzi's shot was deflected off Ter Stegen's inner thigh. Sevilla would lament themselves for the missed chance with what was to come. First, Suarez improvised in the box to fire a bicycle kick past Rico, and then Messi scored twice to increase his lead as the league's top scorer.
The second half began with Sevilla seeing a bit more of the ball, but in positions of little danger for Barca. When Neymar, Messi or Suarez picked up the ball they simply danced around Sevilla's defence
Midway through the second half the visitors began to ask questions of Barca's defence, at the same time as the home side lifted their food from the gas pedal. Chances came and went at either end, but nothing came of them.
Vitolo got sent off towards the end to epitomise the visitors' frustration. With this win, Barcelona are now top of LaLiga as they wait to see what happens when Real Madrid face Leganes.
