Real Madrid played solely to attack which produced an exciting encounter. Zinedine Zidane's men may have won comfortably, but Legia had their chances and a more clinical side could have made it a difficult evening for the Champions League holders.
The Spanish side dominated early possession, but Legia came the closest to opening the scoring when Odjidja hit the post early on.
Gareth Bale then made Legia pay for their inability to finish early chances, as the Welshman cut inside from the right wing whose left-footed shot nestled into the corner of the goal.
After Bale's opener, Zidane's side didn't have to wait long for a second goal, which came with more than a stroke of luck. Marcelo came forward from left back and the Brazilian's wayward shot deflected of Jodlowiec, leaving Malarz wrong-footed.
However, Legia then got themselves back into the game from the penalty spot. Raphael Varane brought down Radovic in the area, and the Legia Warsaw men fired the subsequent penalty past Keylor Navas.
It almost got even better for the Polish side who had a good chance which fell to Odjidja. Gareth Bale lost the ball in a dangerous area and the ball fell to the Legia midfielder, but he couldn't hit his attempt goalwards.
Almost immediately after Odjidja's attempt, Madrid went 3-1 up through Marco Asensio. Ronaldo found the young midfielder on the edge of the box, who neatly side-footed past Malarz.
The match didn't quite produce quite an entertaining second half, but there was still plenty of action. At 3-1, Legia had a good shout for a penalty turned down which could have made the match a whole lot more interesting if it had been given.
Real Madrid were then left to thank a couple of substitutes for turning a comfortable victory into a rout. Firstly, Lucas Vazquez fired a superb volley past Malarz from a cross from Morata, who then scored Madrid's fifth and final goal of the evening.
On a night where Madrid didn't have to sweat too much for the win, Ronaldo cut a frustrated figure as he squandered a number of chances. The European champions also looked exposed at the back and gifted a number of opportunites to Legia who attacked well on the break.
