Spartak went into the game needing a win to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League alive, but it quickly became evident that Liverpool were in no such mood to risk an ignominious defeat.
Philippe Coutinho began the rout, slotting home a penalty after just four minutes after Mohamed Salah had been brought down by Georgi Dzhikiya.
Clearly having enjoyed his first taste of action in front of goal, the Brazilian got himself on the scoresheet once again just 11 minutes later, finishing off a fine team move.
Sadio Mane found Salah with a simple ball through the middle and all of a sudden Liverpool were in. Salah fed Roberto Firmino on the right and the Brazilian pulled the ball back for his fellow countryman to slot home from 10 yards.
Liverpool were looking a threat every time they went forward at this point and it didn't take them long to get a third.
With 19 minutes on the clock the 'Reds' were out of sight. Mane burst away down the right and Serdar Tasci could only block his cross into the path of Firmino, who clipped the loose ball into the far corner with the outside of his right boot.
It was a devastating display of attacking ability from Liverpool.
