A Leicester City fan has escaped a ban despite being charged by police for homophobic chanting.
The incident took place in th aftermath of Leicester City's 2-0 win over Brighton, as Jason Holmes, 44, was seen chanting "q***r" three times at a group of Brighton supporters outside the King Power Stadium.
The Leicester fan, who admitted his guilt in court and believed the chant to be just "football banter", was handed a £300 fine as well as being charged a further £115 in victim-related expenses. However, Holmes avoided a footballing ban on account of "showing remorse" and admitting to have done wrong, despite Magistrate Andrew Holt remining the fan that "the term q***r" is not acceptable".
